Meet Ruth

I am a registered General and Obstetric Nurse, Registered Midwife, and now endorsed Midwife.
In 1990 I set up a birth business in New Zealand supporting women to birth at home and at hospital, during this time women taught me how strong they could be, and I found women choosing to birth at home had better outcomes.
I then moved into home birth for all women.

After 35 years of being on call I decided to come to Australia to tour around and do agency work. I ended up staying in Mackay for 5 years, working both in management, birth center, and women's health. I started to miss the home births, so I completed my endorsement through Griffith University, and am now registered to take on home birth clients in and around Mackay and Whitsunday's.

My Philosophy

I believe the choice to birth at home is the best for women, babies, family and the wider community. I believe that the empowerment of women to birth their babies in the way that they choose to do so, in the comfort and safety of their own home is so significant to be immeasurable. Home birth offers the best environment to an unmedicatied birth with significantly less likelihood of unnecessary interventions. the benefits are felt by the whole family, partners and extended families can support fully and children can be as involved as is appropriate for your situation.
